Cleaning decking boards made of WPC - this is how the terrace keeps its shine

Regular cleaning is essential for long-term enjoyment of the WPC decking. In this way, you not only ensure a more attractive appearance, but also prevent mold growth.

Regularly removing leaves and other garden waste WPC (Wood-Plastic Compound) is a practical and stable covering for the terrace. It is a composite material made of wood and plastic. The flooring offers a natural look, high weather resistance and therefore a long service life.

What many do not know: foliage and other garden waste in combination with long-lasting moisture offer an excellent place for mold growth. So that this does not happen and you can enjoy your decking for a long time, regular cleaning and maintenance is absolutely necessary.

Cleaning WPC decking - what you need:

For normal soiling during the summer, water, washing-up liquid or WPC cleaner (such as this one) and a scrubbing brush or a brush are sufficient.

Thorough cleaning is the order of the day at the end of the outdoor season. Then you should also impregnate the decking (my recommendation: Greenwood protective impregnation colorless). Have all materials and tools ready.

Here again all at a glance:

  • Brush, scrubber
  • Bodenwischer

  • bucket
  • WPC Cleaner
  • WPC Imprägnierer
  • Brush or surface brush
  • paint tray

The prelude: Thorough cleaning of the WPC floorboards

Use a weak concentration of the WPC cleaner to wipe and clean light soiling. For the annual basic cleaning, dose the detergent more strongly, paying attention to the manufacturer's instructions.

We recommend 200 ml of concentrate in a bucket of warm water. Apply the cleaning solution to the floorboards with a floor wiper or rag and let the agent take effect for a short time. You can refinish with a brush or scrubber and remove stubborn dirt. With strong stains, you can increase the concentration, the agent does not harm the floorboards.

Take up the loosened dirt with the floor wiper and spray the terrace with the garden hose if possible. " Attention: Do not use a high-pressure cleaner, the water pressure is not tolerated by most WPC boards.

After cleaning, let the planks dry well, followed by impregnation.

Impregnation ensures permanent protection

Pour the WPC impregnation into a paint pan and apply the solution evenly. You can use a brush or a paint roller for this. For planks with grooves, a brush is better, so you can get into all the recesses. Use only as much impregnation as the planks can easily absorb. If you are unsure, test first in a less visible place. You can see that you have used too much impregnation if liquid remains on the planks. Dry weather is important for impregnation to work well.

Allow the impregnation to take effect for 20 minutes and then absorb excess liquid with a rag. Now let everything dry; after two hours you can re-enter the terrace. The impregnated WPC boards are completely dry and resilient after one or two days.
